Computerized Imaging Reference Systems, Inc. (CIRS)
The Factory is located at 900 Asbury Avenue, Norfolk, Virginia, USA
Computerized Imaging Reference Systems (CIRS) was founded in 1982 by Dr. Elias Zerhouni, Moustafa Zerhouni and William Drury. Their task was to create a reference model that would allow the computed tomography scanner to accurately distinguish between benign and malignant lung tumors. Dr. Zerhouni's patented "Pulmonary Nodule Reference Simulator" minimizes the need for expensive and often unnecessary thoracotomy procedures. Other products followed, including CT models for bone mineral density assessment and models for assessing the image quality of mammography systems. Since then, CIRS has become a globally recognized leader in the manufacture of tissue equivalent models for research and training in densitometry, calibration, quality control, medical imaging and radiation therapy. CIRS is one of the few companies specializing in the design, development, and manufacture of tissue-equivalent models for all imaging modes, and is the only company to offer tissue-equivalent "multimodal models" under a combination of X-ray, ultrasound, and MRI.
